Coffee arrived to Costa Rica from Jamaica at the end of the XVIII century, and it adjusted so well to its soil and climate, that it rapidly disseminated. Its expansion accelerated in 1821, when the Government gave away land, coffee bushes, and fiscal benefits to all of those who made a commitment to plant this crop. As a result, in few years coffee became Costa Rica´s main export product, forever changing its way of life, and above all, placing this small Central American country in the world map for the first time. Today coffee is still one of the main crops of Costa Rica, and Costa Rican coffee is recognized worldwide for its excellence. Café Historia 1492
Since its founding in 2001, Oro Verde has been dedicated to operating coffee and other hot beverages vending machines throughout Costa Rica. However, and even though the company tried out the leader coffee brands, Oro Verde was never completely satisfied. If Oro Verde wanted a coffee blend that was simply perfect for the vending machines, it would have to create it itself, and that was precisely what it did. In 2005 Oro Verde established an alliance with a group of coffee growers from Los Santos, a Costa Rican region that is well known internationally for its excellent high grown coffee. Together, they ran multiple tests until they found the perfect roast to achieve the best possible flavor and aroma in the cups of coffee prepared with the machines. The results where so good and the demand so high, that in 2008 the coffee was given its own brand -Café Historia 1492- and the company started selling it to the general public. In fact, for the public to be able to prepare it in their homes, to the existant presentation of whole bean coffee, two ground coffee presentations were added. A first one specially thought for the European market, where Napolitan and other machines are used, and a second finer one for the Costa Rican market, where this beverage is usually prepared in coffee makers. |

Coffee is originary from Ethiopia, and from this country it spread to the Arab world. By the XVI century coffee had fully developed in the Islamic nations, and by the XVII century it was also popular in Europe, from where it started its great journey to the European colonies. Coffee was introduced in Martinica in 1714 and from this island it made its way to the Antilles and to the rest of the American continent. 
Café Historia 1492 is a brand produced and distributed by Oro Verde de Costa Rica, an Italian-Costa Rican company.
